About Ananth

Ananth Shankar was born in Madras, 1977 to a family of educationalists, including an IIT professor father. The right encouragement from home took the left hander to many early successes in art, winning attention and more through school. Supported to stay away from mundane career choices, he joined the Accessory Design Program at NIFT, Delhi where his training in craft and design methodologies prepared him for a professional career as a product and accessory designer.

While still at college, his unique style of cartooning was rewarded with self titled columns in national publications such as Folio magazine and The Hindu amongst others.

Post graduating, his employed career was a journey through all aspects of applied design – as an advertising and copywriting associate at HTA ( Hindustan Thomson Associates), a retail visual Merchandiser for CDE ( Centre for Design Excellence), and a Visual Brand Manager for ARVIND GARMENTS ( Manufacturer of Lee, Arrow etc.) In 2001, he partnered to start an independent design house, offering a wide range of solutions for brands. Between 2001 to 2006, this design house consulted all aspects of design for over 200 national and global brands along with a fair share of start ups.

Eventually, on account of quick turn-around time, principles of transparent and affordable design for all and an articulate personality, Ananth Shankar became a go-to specialist for start-ups and re-invention seeking brands.

While this career delivered profit, pride was accumulated through many cartoon accomplishments. A self titled column in The Times of India, Financial Times, Education Times and several others, along with fund raising high visibility events built upon his unique ability to draw animals in any manner, created a Walt Disney like reputation to this niche skill.

In 2006, he moved out of the concrete jungle and towards the more inspiring real one. Living in a farm house on the wild side of Bangalore and running an adventure camp in partnership at one of Chikmagalur’s largest coffee properties, his life is deeply connected to nature. He loves a good road trip to destinations unexplored, walking in the mountains, observing birds and capturing nature in sketches, images and short films.

“I appreciate human beings only when they co-exist with other species on this planet as humane beings. For the inspired businesses of such people, I offer my skills, services and time. For me design and life are best as a blend of being creative + witty , for then the result changes from living to feeling alive” – Ananth Shankar
